Buying a Brompton Electric bike is an exciting opportunity. There are a handful of great options to choose from, and the benefits of riding an e-bike are huge. But with hype riding high and multiple options available, it’s not always clear which electric bike is best for you.
To help make that decision easier, and ensure you get the absolute most out of your new folding e-bike, we’ve put together a guide to help answer the question ‘Which Brompton Electric should I buy?’
From the lightweight and futuristic T Line, to the rugged, adventurous G Line, not to mention the performance-driven and eminently-portable P Line, there’s an option for everyone.
But first, let’s look at the C Line…
The C Line is our original model. It’s the bike that brought the Brompton fold to the world – and the one that’s been enduringly popular for fifty years. The frame is built from steel, making the C Line durable, tough, but also smooth to ride. It lives for the city streets.
The addition of our e-Motiq system to the Electric C Line only serves to heighten all the things you loved about the original. It’s still a joy to ride around town, it still folds neatly and compactly, it still offers smooth, stable handling – just with less effort required to get up to speed.
The 250-watt motor on new Electric C Line models is located in the rear wheel hub (previous iterations had the motor in the front wheel). The motor is supported by a 345 Wh battery, which helps provide three levels of seamless pedal assist and range of up to 90km or four continuous hours.
Whether you’re commuting to work or exploring the city at weekends, the system delivers a smooth and natural ride that feels intuitive from the off. With four speeds to choose from, the Electric C Line has enough gears to help you tackle most terrain you’ll encounter in the course of daily life. And the e-Move system is there to help you if you feel like tackling some bigger hills.
The Brompton Electric C Line weight of 13.9 kg (17.3 kg with battery) is impressively low. Especially considering the all-steel construction. Its famously compact fold – just 690 mm high, 585 mm wide, and 270 mm deep – ensures easy storage at home, in the office, or under a café table. The removable battery can be carried separately, lightening the load when hopping on public transport or tackling a short flight of stairs, making it practical for busy urban life.
As the most accessible model in the Brompton Electric line-up, the Electric C Line delivers exceptional value while retaining our signature quality. Ideal for daily commuters, leisure riders, and anyone seeking a classic folding bike, it’s a dependable electric companion for urban travel.
We created the P Line to give riders a little more performance from their folding bike. It’s a light, agile take on the classic Brompton fold with a rebuilt frame that uses titanium. The use of this impressive material for the rear part of the P Line’s frame brings down the overall weight of the bike – and that saving applies to both the conventional and Electric versions.
Carrying this design philosophy through to the Electric P Line, we worked hard to integrate the electric assist system in a way that is light and easy to manage. As a result, the Electric P Line – while heavier than the P Line – remains a wonderfully efficient machine for multi-modal commuting. It’s easy to carry up stairs, or lift onto the train or bus. The Brompton Electric P Line weight is 13 kg (16.4 kg with battery).
It’s not all about weight, there are some other cool differences to the Electric P Line that make it more portable: the most impactful of these is SuperRoll©.
This feature makes use of a dual-locking seat post which can be set to different heights when the bike is folded, allowing you to hold the saddle and push the folded bike along – kinda like a suitcase. The SuperRoll© effect is enhanced by new, larger Advance Roller Wheels, which let the bike roll effortlessly along when folded. For more on how SuperRoll© works, check out this video.
The Electric P Line uses a 250-watt motor (in the hub of the rear wheel), paired with a 345 Wh battery (stored on the front of the bike). This combination gives you about 90 km of maximum range. The system can be adjusted with the handlebar control, letting you easily change assistance levels or check remaining battery percentage.
The Electric P Line is a premium Brompton option. It is made with high-performance materials and components, and the price reflects that. When compared to the Electric C Line, it costs about 17% more… but we believe you can feel that little bit extra from your very first ride.
Ideal for riders who need to lift or carry their bike regularly, the Electric P Line suits performance-minded urban cyclists who value portability above all. Its low weight and efficient power assist make it perfect for city commutes with stairs, trains, and buses in the mix.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the Electric G Line changed the game. This bike was a big step for Brompton. We moved away from the 16” wheels you’ll find on A, C, P and T Line bikes in favour of the larger 20” wheel.
This change allowed us to do some interesting things with the bike, boosting the capability and justifying its position as the world’s most versatile folding bike. It’s for exploring beyond the tarmac, without sacrificing the unmatched convenience of the Brompton fold.
The Electric G Line is built around a steel frame, which increases comfort by absorbing chatter from the road or trail, but also makes the bike very durable. Perfect for adventurous trips off the beaten path. Throw in the extra assistance you get from the electric motor and you can really start scheming up some big adventures!
The larger wheel size means that the Electric G Line has the biggest folded dimensions of all our Brompton e-bikes. That being said, it remains one of the most compact options in the folding electric bike market to use 20” wheels. At 16.2 kg without battery (frame size small) it’s still light enough to be manageable when you want to fold the bike and carry it.
The Electric G Line uses a 345-Wh battery to power the impressive 250-watt motor, which is situated in the hub of the rear wheel. This gives you a smooth engagement of the bike’s assistance – and combined they can offer a range of between 30-60 kilometres with three levels of assist.
The Electric G Line comes in around the same price as the Electric P Line, which is about 17% more than the Electric C Line. When comparing the two similarly-priced models, you should bear in mind the kind of riding you want to do.
Both options give amazing performance for the price, but specialise in very different environments. Yearn to explore the roads less travelled? The Electric G Line is an amazing investment. Want to speed through city streets? Opt for the Electric P Line.
With the Electric T Line, we might just have built the lightest folding e-bike in the world. It’s offered in a four-speed or single-speed configuration, with that single-speed option tipping the scales at 10.5 kg (without battery).
This amazing lightness is achieved by building the whole frame out of titanium (not just the rear part of the frame, as is the case with the P Line). We also selected the lightest components to bring down weight even further, so there’s a carbon fibre seat post and saddle, plus super-light pedals.
Because the Electric T Line is so light, you actually get a bit more range between charges. The motor has less work to do moving the weight of the frame, and so can keep on going longer. A nice little bonus!
The Electric T Line is also super-portable. Low weight means you can dart up stairs, jump onto transport or carry the bike through your office with ease. The bike folds down to the same dimensions as the Electric C and P Line, so stores easily out of the way when not in use.
It’s worth saying that the Electric T Line benefits from our SuperRoll© feature, just like the P Line mentioned above. This means the seat post does not need to be fully inside the frame when the bike is folded – allowing you to push the bike along with the saddle as a handle.
The T Line is the only one of our new Electric models to come in either single-speed gearing or four-speed, giving you a choice between the simplicity of one gear, or a versatile range of four.
The 250-watt motor on new Electric T Line models is placed in the hub of the rear wheel. The motor is supported by a 345 Wh battery, which helps provide three levels of seamless pedal assist and range of up to 90km or five continuous hours.
When it comes to price tag, the Electric T Line is our most advanced model, and also our most premium. You can expect to pay between 60 and 70% more for the supreme lightness and epic performance of the T Line (when compared to equivalent Electric G Line or P Line models).
The Electric T Line was made for those riders who really want the best. Who want to travel effortlessly and with agile efficiency, both in the saddle and when the bike is folded.
With four distinctive models, the Brompton Electric range offers a solution for every ride, but choosing the best electric Brompton depends entirely on your lifestyle and priorities.
The Electric T Line is the ultimate in portability. Crafted almost entirely from titanium, it delivers unrivalled lightness (as little as 10.5 kg without the battery) and a supremely refined ride. Perfect for riders who frequently carry their bike up stairs, hop on public transport, or simply want the smoothest, most premium experience.
The Electric P Line provides a sweet spot between performance and practicality. Its part-titanium frame makes it agile and easy to lift, while retaining a robust, sporty feel for daily commuting.
The Electric C Line, meanwhile, is the classic Brompton experience enhanced with effortless electric assist. It’s durable, dependable, and represents outstanding value – ideal for everyday city riders who want trusted performance without stretching the budget.
Finally, the Electric G Line caters to those who crave adventure. With 20-inch wheels, hydraulic brakes, and a stable, full-size feel, it’s perfect for riders who split their time between tarmac and light trails.
When comparing the Brompton Electric range, start with your key needs. If weight and portability are top priorities, the T Line is unbeatable, with the P Line as a lighter-on-the-wallet alternative. For classic reliability and urban ease, the C Line remains a winner. If comfort, stability and exploring beyond the city are your goals, the G Line stands apart.
And remember… nothing replaces a proper test ride to feel the subtle handling differences for yourself.
Every Brompton Electric model delivers ingenious design, smooth power assistance and unmatched urban freedom. The best electric Brompton is the one that fits your journeys – from the ultra-light to the adventure-ready.
