Top 5 Chamonix eats for eager explorers

Meet the German adventurers with a ‘grab and go’ attitude at altitude

“With the G Line, we wanted to blend our love for outdoor exploration with the flexibility that cycling offers, and Chamonix was the ideal location,” begins Hannes Becker. “It has both beautiful nature trails and small corners of town to explore. For us, the mix of landscapes and the ability to easily switch from hiking to biking made our trip so special.”

Travelling with partner Frauke Hameister, the famous French town of Chamonix was an ideal playground for the two explorers and their Brompton G Line bikes. “We’re always balancing work, outdoor adventures, and city exploration,” says Frauke. “The Brompton G Line is compact enough to pack into small spaces but still gives us the freedom to explore on two wheels in rugged terrain, even with some incline. In Chamonix, we camped, hiked, and used the Brompton for spontaneous city rides and quick trips to nearby sights.”

Hannes describes a scenario that all adventurers wrestle with when heading for the hills - looking to travel light while bringing everything you need to make the most of the great outdoors. “One challenge was fitting all our camping gear in the car along with two bikes. But the Brompton G Line’s foldability made it possible. We easily packed it in the car without sacrificing all the space for our camping gear. When we took it out, the bike’s sturdy build handled various terrains surprisingly well - from paved streets to rougher countryside paths. We were even able to bring it onto a mountain lift to explore paths at a higher altitude.”

And it was at those altitudes that Frauke was most surprised by the G Line’s ride feel. “I was impressed with how smooth and sturdy it felt. I expected it to be great on paved roads, but it handled rougher paths much better than I anticipated. People were curious about the folding aspect and how a person on such a small bike was overtaking them!”
