Brompton Maintenance Schedule

You should regularly service your bike to ensure it is running efficiently and that there are no worn or damaged components. The more you ride the bike the more frequent you should be servicing it, especially after riding in dirt, sand, mud and in the rain.

1-3 Month

Brompton bikes generally have a front carrier block where you can clip a bag enabling you to get around without carrying it on your back. You can also add a rear rack and rack bag if you need more storage space.

If you find you are rolling your bike around folded a lot you can add Eazy wheels which will add stability and allow you to roll your bike more smoothly. Brompton also have their very own design of Quad lock so you can attach your phone to your bike to guide yourself around.

It’s important to keep your tyres pumped to 80-100psi. We recommend using a track pump to do this so you can ensure your tyres are at the correct pressure. For if you do get a puncture it’s useful to carry some spares with you. The Brompton tool kit fits into the main frame tube so is hidden away and you don’t have to remember to pack it. And it’s good to always have an inner tube.

6-12 Month

Keep an eye on your brake blocks. On every brake block there is a wear line, when the block reaches that line they will need replacing. Depending on your level of use of your bike you will need to change your chain and sprockets after 8-12 months. The chain and sprockets wear together so we always recommended changing them both at the same time it is important to keep an eye on your tyres. If they have tread on them a sign of wear is when you can no longer see the tread. Your tyres will then need replacing. Over time cables stretch and will need replacing. You will feel this if you are having difficulty changing gear or if your brakes feel soft.

1-2 Years

The seat sleeve wears over time the more you fold your bike. It is there to protect the seat post from coming into contact with the seat tube. A sign that you need to change your seat sleeve is a slipping seat post.

The more you fold your bike the more the hinges wear. We recommend looking out for any lateral play in the hinges as this is a sign that they need replacing. On average they will need replacing after 2 years.
