Spring forward and give your commute a new lease of life

With Spring well and truly upon us now, it’s a time for all things new and refreshed. With more and more people venturing back outdoors after a cold and gloomy winter, now is the time to think about taking in as much fresh air and vitamin D as the temperamental British springtime will allow! And where is the best place to start? We think it’s with your commute.

For many people (office workers in particular), the daily commute is the only time in the day they see the great outdoors, and more often than not, it’s just a short walk to the car or train station. Why not make the most of your commute by ditching the car, tube or train and jumping on a Brompton bike instead?

As well as helping to improve your physical health, opting for a bike over the tube will help expose you to cleaner, fresher air – did you know that a recent report by the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP) has shown that the air quality on the tube is 30 times worse than on the street above? – which in turn helps reduce sickness and improves overall productivity. 68% of our community told us that cycling made them happier and in addition to that, gentle exercise releases endorphins, helping you to feel more energetic and maintain mental wellbeing. And the icing on the cake? Say goodbye to frustrating traffic jams in the city and get to work faster.

But knowing where to start when it comes to commuter cycling can be a bit of a minefield, so we’ve pulled together a few Spring essentials from Brompton to help you on your way…

Bikes

The first port of call is, of course, choosing the bike. If you’re completely new to Brompton, use our ‘Help Me Choose’ module to help you determine which bike would best suit your lifestyle, commute and personal style.

With brand new colours available for 2019 including Turkish Green, Hot Pink, Flame Lacquer, Purple Metallic and Papyrus White, choose a bike that will turn your commute into a statement journey. Check out our best selling bikes for the latest colours and styles.

If your commute is particularly long, or hilly, a Brompton Electric could be the best option for you. A Brompton Electric bike provides assistance when you need it, flying up hills, or on a long journey for example. If you want to arrive faster and fresher, Electric is definitely the way to go.

If you already know the kind of thing you’re looking for, use our Bike Builder to create your own custom design. Choose your handlebar style, frame colour and material, tyres and saddle type, accessories and more, and we’ll build your bike in right here in our London factory and ship it to your local Brompton outlet to collect.

Accessories

Already have a Brompton and looking to brighten up your commute this Spring? Our range of spring accessories can help you to do just that. Add colour to your set up with our range of luggage.

Our bestselling Lagoon Blue C bag is a versatile and hard-wearing large capacity messenger bag – it boasts multiple compartments, including a suspended laptop compartment and large front and rear pockets with water resistant zips for easy access on the go, and it even has an integrated high-visibility rain cover that has a wraparound reflective band, perfect for unexpected (yet inevitable!) Spring showers.

If you’re looking for something more fashion forward, we’ve collaborated with the Cambridge Satchel Company to develop a range of satchels that have been designed to match and fit perfectly on the front of your Brompton bike.

And finally, to complete the look, explore our new Logo Collection range, a simple set of everyday casual t-shirts and hats. Carefully considered, featuring woven and printed logo details in a versatile monochrome colourway.
