The Urban Bike Challenge returned to New York City on Saturday, July 29. The forecasted rain never came as 100 cyclists on 33 teams converged on the Brompton Cafe at Rough Trade NYC to fuel up with coffee and donuts before setting out to spend the afternoon riding the Big Apple. There were cyclists of all kinds, including about twenty Brompton riders and several riders who took advantage of the complimentary Citi Bike day passes.

The team that scored the most points, winning a set of waterproof Ortlieb bags, was Didn't Try to Run Away. And the team judged most creative, and the recipients of a set of helmets from Nutcase, was Flash Dog. There was great competition in both categories. Check out the final scoreboard, as well as the best photos of the day in our Facebook album.

The Flash Dog team takes as break to catch up on the news on the Pulaski Bridge.

The locations participants hit included the busy Pulaski Bridge and Kent Avenue bike lanes, Dumbo, Astor Place, Socrates Sculpture Park, the McCarren Park greenmarket and the Leonard Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. All teams reconvened at t.b.d. brooklyn for prizes, a slideshow and a complimentary drink from Brooklyn Brewery. And lots of money was raised for Transportation Alternatives, which will help continue to improve street safety for cycling New Yorkers.

A great time was had by all and we hope to see you again next summer!
