The North America Brompton Team are off to the Sea Otter Classic to exhibit for the first time.

Sea Otter

Brompton's North America team were at the Subaru Sea Otter Classic from 16-19th April with the much-anticipated Black Edition on display, as well as a full complement of Brompton bikes for attendees to demo. The Black Edition is available in limited numbers and arrived in stores across the U.S. & Canada while the show was ongoing, it's release was covered by Bicycling Magazine who also shared this video of Brompton's North America general manager Katharine Horsman showing off her fold.

During the four day event hundreds of visitors to the stand chatted to the team of Senior Sales Rep Ed Rae, Ops Manager Richard Spencer and Katharine, who were joined over the weekend

by local Brompton dealer Clay Wagers of Bay Area Bikes in Oakland, CA. The event has diversified in recent years to include all types of cycling products and bicycles, but at its core it remains racing-oriented, with first class Road, Cyclocross and Mountain Biking races taking place throughout. An intrigued mountain biker passing the stand enthusiastically wondered if he might try to back flip a Brompton off the GoPro arena ramp, resulting in this spectacular (but unfortunately over-cooked) effort.

Brompton mixing it with the pros

Whilst one Brompton was getting vertical, our own Operations Manager was out to prove it a more than capable machine on the road. Richard tackled the hilly 93 mile Gran Fondo, losing touch with the lead group (which included BMC racing legend, World Champion & Tour de France winner Cadel Evans) shortly after the half-way point, but finishing well ahead of most at almost 18mph average. Bike Biz reported on his exploits as well as his mention in Bicycling's coverage for joining their 40 mile industry ride on the previous day.
