Brompton at the Bike Expo New York & Five Boro Bike Tour

Despite what the weather reports suggested, the Bike Expo New York, and the subsequent Five Boro Bike Tour, was held over a beautifully sunny weekend. The Expo was staged at Basket Ball city on the south east side of Manhattan; the view from the food truck enclave, out over the Hudson towards the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, was fantastic.  People had come from near and far to participate in the Five Boro Bike Tour and were all very keen to talk bikes!

Brompton joined many other brands, vendors and advocates to promote their take on the joys of cycling. Our booth was co-hosted with Redbeard Bikes and another Brompton dealer stalwart, NYCe Wheels, was located just around the corner, their stand featuring a tower of Bromptons with one sat spinning around at the top. The event coincided perfectly with the beginning of bike month and ensured an auspicious start for the month long festival of cycling.

Given the culmination of all things cycling in one central New York location, it seemed only fitting to announce the launch of the Brompton Café and celebrate by giving away free coffee coupons. The Brompton Café is situated inside the Rough Trade NYC record store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, it is a cycle café where all riders are welcome; there is bike parking outside and in, as well as special Brompton parking bays.  The café will become a hub for cycling events throughout the year, follow us on Twitter to learn the latest: @BromptonUSA

After two days of expo the Bike Tour began, 30,000 riders took off on a forty mile ride that took in all five of New York’s boros. The tour started in Manhattan, headed up into the Bronx, then back down FDR Drive and over into Queens,  through Brooklyn, passing close by the Brompton Café on N.9th Street and Kent Avenue, and finally over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on to Staten Island, where the weekend finally finished, with a party.
