The first three of this summer's North American Brompton Urban Challenges concluded with overwhelming fanfare last weekend, as Bromptoneers and cyclists alike buzzed about the day's events. More than 100 cyclists across the country participated in Minneapolis, Oakland, and Washington, DC.
"The Brompton Urban Challenge was a great way for us to showcase our city, our bike shop, and the bikes we love," said Glenda Barnhart, co-owner of Oakland's Bay Area Bikes.
Francis Tatem of Washington, DC's BicycleSPACE agrees. "Participants visited every quadrant in the city," said Tatem, "...and the event sparked good conversation about the Brompton brand."
Weather seemed to cooperate for the BUC across the country as well, as all three of the participating cities saw sunny skies and warm weather.
"What a great, great day," said #BUCOAK participant Marty Ankenbauer, whose day was special indeed. Marty used the Brompton Urban Challenge not only to have a fun-filled afternoon, but he also took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend Susan. Perhaps a Brompton World Championship wedding ceremony is in order?
While Oakland Bromptoneers were busy exploring their city's art murals, reenacting movie scenes, and finding love around town, DC Urban Challengers spent the afternoon with beloved local statues and embracing the bike's British heritage.
Meanwhile, Minneapolis Urban Challengers embraced the sunny Saturday afternoon by exploring their city's landmarks big and small - from making a visit to the tiny Elf Tree at Lake Harriet, to taking in the bright city skyline from afar.
With two more Brompton Urban Challenge events lined up for the summer - New York City (August 16th) and Toronto (August 29th) - followed closely by the Brompton World Championship USA in Richmond, Virginia, North American Bromptoneers have plenty to look forward to for the remainder of the summer season. Stay tuned!
