Brompton Cafe at Rough Trade Records
New York City, USA
The second annual Brompton Urban Challenge NYC was held during Bike Month on May 15. Around 40 participants fueled up with coffee and donuts at the Brompton Café at Rough Trade NYC. This included thirteen Brompton curious riders who had signed up for borrowing a Brompton for the day. Also joining in the fun was Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams, who happened to be town for the weekend.
While the weather started a bit blustery and overcast, the sun was out by the end of the day as over ten teams completed the New York city scavenger hunt that took in checkpoints at Redbeard Bikes, Bicycle Habitat and NYCeWheels bike shops. The teams exhibited their creativity in tackling their photographic list of tasks that included celebrating Bike Month and the urban cycling landscape, demonstrating multimodal travel, and capturing the features of the city with a Brompton, including skylines, bridges, statues and street art.
At the checkpoints, one member of each team engaged in a challenge, which included identifying Brompton parts, lifting a folded Brompton as many times as possible in fifteen seconds, and a one-handed timed fold. A Challenge Champion prize was awarded to the team with the best overall scores, as well as prizes for Best Single Photo, Most Inspired Interpretation, and Best Overall Team.
Teams reconvened back in Brooklyn for food and drink at the Kent Ale House. While displaying some of the best photos and videos captured throughout the day, prizes were awarded and a folding competition was held.
