Brompton World Championship Final
The sun shone as over 500 Brompton riders took to the streets for this uniquely British event. Starting with a mad dash to unfold their bikes, the route passed some of London most famous landmarks including The Mall, St James Park, Buckingham Palace and Horseguards Parade. Riders raced around 8 laps of the 1.3mile course. Mark Emsley claimed his 3rd Mens crown and was awarded a Bremont watch, whilst Isabel Hastie won 1st place with a photo finish in the Women’s race and was presented a Brompton World Championship Limited Edition bike designed by Brompton especially for this year’s race. Former pro cyclist David Millar and Michael Hutchinson battled hard but just missed out on the championship.
Brompton bikes have been built in London for over 40 years and bringing this unique race back to the capital was the perfect backdrop to showcase the speed, agility and freedom a Brompton bike offers for city living. There were also opportunities for the public to trial a Brompton on the day at the Aldwych festival site. This area provided a taster of #TryBrompton month which starts in September, where the public can test ride a bike at every Brompton dealer in the UK.
Brompton CEO, Will Butler-Adams OBE had this to say: “It’s great to see this iconic British event held in London for the second time as part of Prudential RideLondon. The Brompton World Championship is a great way to showcase the joy of cycling and how a Brompton bike is a surprisingly fast and nimble way of getting around the city!”
Brompton hosted a range of fun activities across the day in their hospitality area including a Best Dressed competition that was voted for by Boden clothing’s design team, a live discussion with Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams and BBC World Affairs Correspondent Michael Wooldridge and a Gin masterclass from Bulldog Gin to name a few.
Congratulations to all those who took part. A race to remember.
