The 11th Brompton World Championship Final will take place as part of the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling on Saturday 30th July. The opportunity to race in this iconic setting means competition for places will be fierce, with only 575 available via a ballot. This is the second time the race has been held in the capital, where the Brompton bike was invented and it still made today.
Last year’s event saw participants from over 20 nations taking part with a star-studded field including British cycling stars David Millar and Michael Hutchinson. Sportswear most definitely is not permitted with a strictly no Lycra rule. Competitors start the race with a Le Mans-style mad dash, unfolding their bikes before taking on the 16km circuit. Mark Emsley was last year’s Male winner storming to the finish in 00:26:45 and Isabel Hastie took the Women’s crown in 00:28:49.
We look forward to seeing you on The Mall in July.
Registration to participate in the BWC Final will be open from Friday 29th January and will close on Friday 12th February at 17:00 GMT. Registration may be closed earlier if registrants reach over 1,500.
Once registration has closed, 575 entrants will be selected across a range of abilities in order to maximise the number of riders we can accommodate safely on the course.
Successful registrants will be informed by email no later than Friday 19th February with a link to pay the entry fee of £40. This fee will cover event entry, electronic chip timing, rider hospitality on The Mall and an event goody bag.
If additional places become available, those on the reserve list will be notified by email no later than Friday 11th March.
Once you have your race place confirmed you will be able to enter the team event. To enter you will need to submit your team name and the names of all team members to the BWC events team by Friday 22nd July. Riders will not be able to join teams after this time.
Please note that teams may be made up of a minimum of three participants and a maximum of five. To classify, at least three members of a team must finish the race; team classification will be determined by the aggregated times of every team’s top three finishers. In Veterans teams all members must be over 50 on the day of the event.
